Bilingual Recovery Counselor

Pay Range: $24.28 - 27.92 /hr
$1,500 Sign-on bonus!
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Job Summary  

The Bilingual Recovery Counselor will assess the client’s personal, medical, emotional, social, and environmental situation to plan for the treatment course through home, community, and office visits.  They will provide individually-based motivational treatment and support to clients to assist them in their recovery in English and Spanish.  They will support clients in building coping skills, symptom management, and resiliency to deal with behavioral health issues. The Bilingual Recovery Counselor will be an advocate for clients and link them to community services as needed.  They will provide client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed services to clients with severe mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use disorders utilizing a harm reduction approach in English and Spanish 

The Bilingual Recovery Counselor will provide at least 75% of all community support services in the community in English and Spanish.  They will complete case management tasks with clients within a shared caseload.  The Bilingual Recovery Counselor will be responsible for documenting all services provided to clients according to organizational policy, as well as state and grant requirements.   

Essential Responsibilities  

• Assess client’s personal, medical, emotional, social, and environmental situation through home, community, and office visits in English and Spanish 

• Provide coaching and support utilizing evidenced based practices such as motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT etc.  

• Coordinate the establishment of an individual recovery plan with the client, client’s support system, and other care providers.  

• Complete daily progress notes based on services provided to clients in a timely manner reflected in Trilogy’s documentation policy and agency standards  

• Complete all necessary documentation related to client care   

• Assist clients in identifying signs and symptoms of de-compensation, assess for crisis situations and or the need for stabilization through hospitalization.  Work collaboratively with clients to identify coping skills to assist in managing symptoms and stressors experienced in English and Spanish 

• Provide support to clients around issues related to immigration, non-funded status, and navigating resources.  

• Provide psychoeducation, medication training and monitoring to clients according to Trilogy policy  

• Assist clients in learning and improving independent living skills; i.e. personal hygiene, housekeeping skills, nutrition, and shopping for food and personal items  

• Educate and assist clients with applying for entitlements as applicable.    

• Accompany and transport clients to important appointments in the community and provide support with issues related to housing, substance use, budgeting, social support, and medication, offering translation in English and Spanish 

• Advocate on client’s behalf and empower clients to advocate on behalf of themselves when appropriate  

• Communicate effectively within the team model for a multi-disciplinary approach to client care.  

• Actively participate in team communication via multiple electronic platforms  

• Engage regularly in team meetings to consult and collaborate on shared caseload  

• Provide on-call and crisis coverage as assigned.  

• Perform other related duties and/or projects as assigned  

  

Qualifications  

• Must be bilingual in Spanish   
• Any individual who is 21 years of age that has a GED or high school diploma and demonstrates all of the following:   
• • Skill in the delivery of rehabilitative services to adults   

• • The ability to work within a provider agency's structure and accept supervision; and  

• • The ability to work constructively with individuals receiving services, other providers of service, and the community; or an individual qualified as a Peer Support Worker   

• MHP status preferred (Bachelor's degree in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, social work, education, vocational counseling, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, or related human service field, or bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in the field, CRSS or CADC certification)  

• Valid Illinois Driver’s License with daily access to a vehicle.  Must have $100,000/$300,000 auto liability insurance.  

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as directed.  

• Experience working with people with mental health and/or substance use diagnoses preferred   

• Experience in community-based services preferred

Working Conditions  

• General office setting, extensive desk work at computer terminal.  

• May be required to lift, carry, bend, reach, and stand with parcels up to 25 lbs.  

• Depending on position may work remotely.  

• For Clinical Positions: Working conditions may include transporting clients in personal vehicles; and driving/visiting clients in their homes or other community locations necessary to assist with client needs.
