POSITION: Bilingual Teacher
JOB FUNCTION: The Bilingual teacher is expected to plan and deliver instruction in both English and Spanish language, focusing on supporting Multilanguage Learners (MLs), ensuring all students achieve academic success, while also fostering cultural understanding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- New Jersey teaching certification for the content area and bilingual endorsement certification.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students.
- Knowledge of curriculum standards and best practices in bilingual education
REPORTS TO:
School Principal
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and deliver lessons in both English and Spanish, tailoring instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, particularly MLs.
- Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel comfortable participating.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and strategies to engage students and promote learning.
- Assess student learning and provide feedback to support student progress.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of bilingual curriculum.
- Stay current with best practices in bilingual education and ML instruction.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and staff to support MLs.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress.
- Provide content area instruction in Spanish to help MLs develop content proficiency and learn key vocabulary words and concepts in Spanish and English.
- Support students in their transition to English and in understanding American culture.
- Use a variety of assessments to monitor student progress and identify areas where students may need additional support.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction, improve student outcomes, and monitor students' progress.
- Attend professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Participate in school activities and events.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Chief Academic Officer.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month contracted position per negotiated CBA.
EVALUATION: According to state statute and rule and board policy.
