Position summary

Coordinate departmental training, procedures, projects, and day-to-day billing across the Firm in order to provide staff, attorneys and clients with timely and accurate billing. Provide high-level support to Manager of Billing Systems, Regional Billing Managers, and Billing Supervisors exercising the highest discretion and demonstrating a thorough knowledge of the firm and the Finance Department and its functions. Provide general support to clients, attorneys, and other staff as appropriate.

Job duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain a Billing Procedures Manual that will be used on a firm-wide basis by other billers and Finance Department personnel, including variations for attorneys and secretaries.
  • Train new billers as well as work with the Supervisor of Billing Systems and Training to develop an ongoing training program for all current staff that focuses on improving billing, accounting systems, customer service and general business skills/knowledge.
  • Serve as Firm-Wide Billing “Help Desk” for all billing related matters for timekeepers, support staff and billing staff.
  • Provide input to the Regional Billing Supervisors if asked regarding billers' performance, training needs, or other personnel matters.
  • Regularly follow up with billers regarding billing delinquency and other issues. Report any incidents or problems of a serious or unusual nature to the appropriate Regional Billing Supervisor.
  • Assist with monthly client billing tasks as assigned. This includes account research and analysis, communications with attorneys/staff/management/accounting personnel.
  • Assist with various projects, including special billing projects, reports as requested, and testing 3E billing enhancements.
  • Act as back up to Supervisor of Billing Systems and Training.
  • Provide training to attorneys and executive assistants on an as needed basis.
  • Work with the Supervisor of Billing Systems and Training to handle various billing issues or difficult or sensitive issues / requests from Regional Billing Supervisors on an as needed basis.
  • Under the direction of the Supervisor of Billing Systems and Training, act as back up on short-term basis for billers who are on extended absences. This could include monthly billing duties to help maintain expected service levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

Associate's Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

Five years accounting, billing, collections or other accounting experience required. Experience in a lead, supervisory or office management role in a law firm or other professional services organization strongly preferred. Experience with Elite preferred.

Skills:

Strong mathematical aptitude and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize/prioritize multiple assignments, work independently on various projects and meet fast-paced deadlines. Strong PC, Word and Excel skills. Must be able to work independently and display a professional manner at all times. Strong attention to detail. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals at all organizational levels. Must possess a strong customer focus and have a track record of providing the highest level of customer service.

Essential job functions

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform tasks requiring prolonged and/or extensive computer use. 

Ability to use computers, telecommunications, and digital collaboration tools to perform core job responsibilities. 

Ability to communicate effectively. 

Ability to maintain attention to detail while analyzing complex information, managing multiple priorities, and applying sound judgment to decisions.

Ability to work extended hours as required to meet project, client, or business needs.

Working conditions

You will be required to work in the office at minimum 4 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor. 

Pay ranges

This is a non-exempt position. The hourly wage range for this role is listed below, with the estimated annual compensation based on the standard workweek for each location. This represents the presently anticipated pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

 

  • Atlanta, Dallas, GSP/Pittsburgh, Houston: $28.37 - $33.65 per hour (40-hour workweek; approximately $59,000 - $70,000 annually)
  • Miami: $30.26 - $35.90 per hour (37.5-hour workweek; approximately $59,000 - $70,000 annually)
  • Philadelphia: $30.29 - $36.06 per hour (40-hour workweek; approximately $63,000 - $75,000 annually)
  • Chicago: $34.62 - $41.21 per hour (35-hour workweek; approximately $63,000 - $75,000 annually)
  • Princeton: $32.21 - $38.46 per hour (40-hour workweek; approximately $67,000 - $80,000 annually)
