Description: Benefits Questions Duties and Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:

Files Medicare, Medicaid, Worker's Compensation and private insurance claims for EMS, both electronically and on paper; Contacts debtors by telephone and in writing; Locates missing debtors using assorted skip tracing techniques; Responsible for confidential material; Composes and prepares various billing and collection letters; Prepares accounts to be turned over to a collection agency; Prepares and files a variety of court documents for filing or releasing liens; Maintains records of work performed; Performs various other tasks to facilitate the distribution and collection of bills.

Other Job Functions: Perform general clerical duties as needed.

Working Conditions: This position requires 100% on-site work. Normal office environment. 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; schedule subject to change; must be able to work extended hours when needed.

Minimum Essential Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Worker's Compensation and private insurance regulations, procedures, deadlines, and filing of claims.
  • Thorough knowledge of billing and collection procedures;
  • Knowledge of City codes and ordinances and state laws governing collections;
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, arithmetic and vocabulary;
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet processing software.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must exhibit a high degree of responsibility;
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal/public relations skills;
  • Ability to manage routine details related to billing and collections and make effective administrative decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures;
  • Ability to set up and maintain filing systems;
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure;
  • Ability to exhibit initiative and innovation and to work with little supervision;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to exercise discretion in all matters;
  • Skill in word processing, spreadsheets and other standard office equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly sees and hears;
  • Frequently operates a PC and calculator, carries and holds objects weighing up to 10 lbs., files, sorts, stands and types;
  • Infrequently lifts objects weighing up to 10 lbs., cleans, climbs, crawls, drags objects weighing up to 10 lbs., kneels, pulls and/or pushes objects weighing up to 10 lbs., runs, squats and stoops.

Education/Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency supplemented by college courses/seminars in business or office administration or related field;
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in office administration or bookkeeping;
  • One (1) year of debt collection experience preferred;
  • Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software.

Other:

  • This position requires 100% on-site work.
  • Skills test may be administered.
