Overview:
The BIM Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, coordination, and management of project models to ensure accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project requirements. This requires strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate in a professional manner with project managers, field teams, trade partners, and BIM leadership to resolve coordination issues, maintain model quality, and support successful project execution.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role has no direct reports.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain a high level of competency in all BIM software tools used in the organization.
- Update and manage 3D models based on coordination meeting outcomes, input from field installers, field observations and project team direction.
- Review BIM models for quality, accuracy, and technical content, including clash detection, model coordination, and alignment with the project BIM Execution Plan.
- Manage and support the coordination process to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within the allotted budget.
- Analyze models provided by Architects, Engineers, subcontractors, and consultants to identify coordination and constructability issues.
- Provide a point of contact for construction team members on BIM/ VDC processes and reports during all phases of construction.
- Provide advice and direction on projects where BIM technologies are utilized.
- Assist project teams in delivering client BIM requirements.
- Participation in Design Review and Clash Resolution meetings.
- Perform QA/QC on design models and cleanup of directories.
- Preparation of drawing packages.
- Collate data for senior management review.
- Communicate with team leaders from various design disciplines for consistent BIM execution for coordinated project delivery.
- Establish and maintain good client relationships.
- Support compliance with BIM-related project deliverables, ensuring models, drawings, coordination updates, and documentation meet J.F. Electric standards and contractual requirements.
- Cross-train in all facets of the Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.
- Record, prepare, and distribute meeting minutes for BIM coordination meetings, ensuring action items, responsible parties, and due dates are clearly documented.
The person in this role will uphold the culture of J.F. Electric, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on J.F. Electric or client premises or at J.F. Electric-sponsored events.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Self-motivated and professional, with the ability to manage priorities, take initiative, pursue continued BIM education, and support process improvements with minimal guidance.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal teams, trade partners, and project stakeholders under time-sensitive conditions.
- Knowledge of BIM standards and coordination practices, including model-based coordination, clash detection, and project team communication.
- Technical understanding and working experience of BIM Level of Development standards, including LOD 300, with working knowledge through LOD 500.
- Proficient in the use of Autodesk Software/Programs - at minimum ACC, FORMA, REVIT, NAVISWORKS, CIVIL 3D
- Knowledge of electrical systems with the ability to take conceptual sketches to constructable plans using REVIT.
- Experience in evaluating electrical system layouts for constructability, field conflicts, sequencing concerns, and coordination issues including but not limited to coordination and modeling of wall openings, penetration layouts, and sleeve/opening requirements for applicable building services.
- Familiarity with Trimble layout point coordination, including creating, exporting, importing, verifying, and managing points between model and the jobsite.
- Experience preparing as-built drawings, model updates, and related project documentation - including but not limited to fabrication/installation sheets, schedules, construction documents, etc.
- Bachelor's degree or trade school certification related to Architecture, Engineering, and Construction, or equivalent technical training or prior work experience in the building industry.
- General knowledge of NFPA 70 and ISO 19650
