Bioinformatics Scientist

The Fountain Group is currently seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist for a prominent client of ours. This position is located in Tucson, AZ. Details for the position are as follows:

• Pay: $45-65/hr.
• Hybrid schedule 
• 3-year assignment with possibility for extension or conversion based on performance and budget.

Responsibilities: 

• Collaborate with molecular biologists, computational biologists, wet lab scientists, and academic partners to support NGS, scRNAseq, and multiomics assay development.
• Develop, implement, optimize, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines, algorithms, tools, and workflows for diagnostic sequencing data.
• Analyze and interpret DNA/RNA sequencing, scRNAseq, and multiomics data from disease, germline, and cell-free DNA samples.
• Support assay development from initial sequencing and validation through production implementation, ensuring data quality, integrity, and accessibility.
• Troubleshoot sequencing data, analytical workflows, and bioinformatics pipelines while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Document workflows and analytical methods to promote reproducibility, scalability, and effective knowledge transfer across teams.
• Communicate scientific findings, project progress, and analytical insights to cross-functional stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s/PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, or a related field with applicable industry experience.
• Strong expertise in DNA/RNA sequencing and scRNAseq data analysis and interpretation.
• Hands-on experience with 10x Genomics analysis workflows and next-generation sequencing technologies.
• Strong understanding of molecular biology principles and familiarity with NGS laboratory processes.
• Proficiency in R and/or Python and experience working in a Linux/distributed computing environment.
• Experience developing bioinformatics pipelines, analytical tools, and reproducible computational workflows.
• Strong data visualization and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex biological findings to multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in clinical diagnostics or a related life sciences/biotechnology environment preferred.
• C++ or Java programming experience is a plus.
