The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery, is seeking qualified applicants for a Biological Scientist I to work in the Jiang laboratory. This position will function as a team leader that conducts experiments, analyzes the data and presents the information locally and nationally. This scientist will independently must have strong personal skills, be able to interact with a large number of faculty, clinical and research staff, and college and hospital administration. Animal contact will be required.

Job Description:

The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery, is seeking qualified applicants for a Biological Scientist I to work in the Jiang laboratory. This position will collect, organize, and analyze the experimental data as part of approved clinical trials. This scientist must have strong personal skills, be able to interact with a large number of faculty, clinical and research staff, and college and hospital administration. Animal contact will be required.

Job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Designs and performs cellular and molecular experiments including PCR, real time PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, and immunohistochemistry assay/imaging.
  • Incorporate new procedures most appropriate for research goals.
  • Performs tissue processing, sectioning, histochemical staining, and morphological analysis.
  • Oversees execution of laboratory experiments, and assists in reviewing, approving, and/or interpreting results for students.
  • Assist with animal experiments including colony management, pre- and post-surgery animal care, drug administration (oral gavage and intraperitoneal injection), minor surgical procedures, ultrasound imaging, and tissue/blood collection.
  • Consult with researchers and other professionals to analyze problems, determine strategies, or recommend solutions.
  • Performs data organization and analysis, prepares Figures/Tables, and presents the results to the group for discussion.
  • May assist in preparing abstracts and manuscripts for publication.
  • Responsible for laboratory organization and management, including, but not limited to, routine maintenance on laboratory equipment, testing of new supplies, tools, and software.
Expected Salary:

$22.50-$26.25 per hour.

Required Qualifications:The successful applicant is expected to have hands-on experience in qRT-PCR, cell culture, and western blotting assays.
Preferred:
  • Degree in biology or biomedical sciences is preferred; advanced degree (Ph.D.) is preferred.
  • Experience in flow cytometry and/or animal handling is a plus.
