The position reports to the building Principal and coordinates program responsibilities with the pre‑k to 5 Teacher Librarian at the state level.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesPromotes literature and the love of reading through reading aloud to students, book talks and fairs, author studies, enrichment programs, and reading guidance.Works with principals and teachers to establish a schedule for the use of the learning center with additional flexible time available.Assists in the instruction needed for use of LLC materials, including computers, reference materials, the Dewey Decimal System, Internet, computer ethics, OPAC, and audio/visual technology as it relates to the LLC and school.Researches and assembles materials (print, non‑print, inter‑school loan) for teachers and students to support curriculum.Assists teacher with appropriate conduct of students.Selects LLC materials, supplies, and equipment; submits consideration forms for approval to the pre‑k to 5 Teacher Librarian.Manages circulation, compiles bibliographies for staff, and provides interlibrary loans.Maintains library‑learning collection and other curricular materials, including shelving, regular shelf reading, repairs, weeding, and discards.Coordinates use of information technologies in support of information literacy.Regulates library site budget accounts.Performs clerical duties: statistical reports, shelf lists, files, bi‑weekly reports, overdue notices/bills, mail, and word processing.Conducts inventory and compiles inventory reports and year‑end statistics.Attends K‑5 library in‑service meetings, site and district in‑services, conferences, and continuing education workshops, and implements district library initiatives.Assists other Library Paraprofessionals with automated library software, upgrades, and manuals.Recruits, trains, and supervises adult and student volunteers in the LLC.Trains substitutes and maintains a current substitute file and provides substitute lesson plans.Participates in site functions/committees as requested.Performs other LLC duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities RequiredCollege degree and/or previous relevant work experience.Enthusiasm for literature.Effective communication with students and adults.Basic computer knowledge.Ability to work independently.Proficiency in spelling, grammar, and information technologies.Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on detail and time management.Dependable, reliable, and protective of sensitive/confidential information.PreferredFamiliarity with audio‑visual technology and automated library systems.Knowledge of Dewey Decimal and MARC systems.Physical and Mental RequirementsMust be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.Frequent walking and physical activity; use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying; ability to move about the classroom/building, bend, push/pull, lift, twist, climb, stoop, or crouch to complete work‑related tasks with and without students.The ability to listen and orally communicate effectively with a diverse population.Ability to discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.Efficient work habits.Environmental ConditionsIndoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels; duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures, including on slippery or uneven surfaces; work environment includes students, school equipment, and office equipment.Work SchedulesMust be available to report during the school year consistent with the district's school year calendar.Background ChecksThe individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.Salary$17.26 to $21.38 per hour; previous public school experience.Job RequirementsCitizenship, residency or work visa required.Contact InformationHuman Resources1009 S Oak Street, Traverse City, Michigan 49684Phone: 231‑933‑1710Email: hr@tcaps.net#J-18808-Ljbffr
