Blasting Superintendent

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee crews performing site work. Conduct daily job briefs and instruct the crew on daily assignments
• Read and understand project plans and specifications, lay out blast patterns for Drillers
• Communicate construction needs: material, equipment, and staffing, promptly to the Construction D&B Manager/Project Manager, to prevent delays
• Communicate planning and scheduling with the client
• Inspect work areas throughout the construction process to ensure the quality and accuracy of work meets specifications, and that the crew meets productivity goals
• Monitor and ensure that the crew follows safety policies and procedures
• Communicate the need for additional Pre-Blast Surveys & Seismic monitoring for current projects with the Project Manager and Construction D&B Manager
• Order explosives for each blast
• Load blast and detonate in a safe manner
• Report yardage blasted to the Project Manager and Construction D&B Manager daily
• Operate drills in critical situations (driller absence, hole cleanout, etc.)
• Complete required reports (production, personnel time and attendance, safety, inspection) on a daily/weekly basis
• Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods and equipment performance to improve efficiency
• Initiate and participate in personnel actions, including hiring, discipline, evaluation, promotion of employees, and terminations
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
• Support safety program policies, procedures, implementation, and compliance verification

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• 2 to 5 years of related experience and training
• Blasting license in both SC and GA, or the ability to obtain
• Willingness and ability to travel and work for extended periods at job sites located predominantly in the Southeastern United States
• Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate plans and work schedules at all levels
• Ability to read, understand, and analyze plans and specifications
• Sense of urgency and ability to respond to changing situations
• Ability to prioritize tasks and complete work on schedule
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team
• Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
• Able to formulate sound decisions using available information
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive
