Job Responsibilities

Building 3800 Maintenance. Position is responsible for daily upkeep in the areas of floors, minor plumbing, minor repairs, custodial maintenance of buildings 3800, 3950, CSMS, USO, and 3810 latrines, general cleaning of entrance window and doors with special emphasis on the maintenance of floors. Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Refill restroom dispensers. Wash walls, toilets and urinals. Clean mirrors. Follow instruction regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed. Clean, dust, and wipe furniture. Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors. Empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers. Replace light bulbs. Conducts quality work with minimum supervision. Operate equipment safely. Perform related duties as required. Safely operate and maintain assigned buffers, auto scrubbers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops and squeegees used for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, furniture and carpets, etc. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows in offices and common areas. Clean blinds as needed. Secure assigned offices when not in use. Check for unlock doors and report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights. Perform light maintenance around building when needed. Remove trash, debris from sidewalks.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and custodial or groundskeeping experience directly related to the area of employment. Knowledge of how to properly carry out custodial or groundskeeping tasks. Knowledge of custodial or groundskeeping standards and requirements. Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment. Knowledge of personnel practices in state government. Skill in the use of cleaning or landscaping tools and equipment. Ability to keep accurate written records. Ability to plan, direct and review the work of subordinates. Ability to train new employees in the proper performance of their duties. Incumbents direct the activities of custodial personnel up to the level of a small staff for an entire agency or institution. Other incumbents direct the activities of groundskeeping personnel up to the level of supervising multiple groundskeeping crews.

Additional Comments

Employee must possess a valid SC Drivers license and complete the agencys drivers safety course. Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch Kneel, and stand for long periods of time. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. A resume will not be accepted in lieu of an online South Carolina State Employment Application.
