What you'll do
- Power up and configure production equipment; verify machine settings are on target.
- Run extrusion blow molding, extrusion, injection blow molding, injection molding, labeling, pad printing, and silk-screen operations.
- Keep machines healthy: clean filters, handle minor maintenance, and supervise purging activities.
- Confirm sleeves, boxes, labels, and materials match each job by part number.
- Perform in-line quality checks and sample inspections against specifications.
- Troubleshoot line problems and make appropriate machine adjustments.
- Notify supervision when service is needed; restart equipment post-maintenance.
- Document problems, root causes, and solutions; record production/quality data and close out runs.
- Maintain a clean, safe workspace; champion safety, food safety, and food quality practices.
- Train fellow Technician Operators and provide break/lunch coverage.
- Support special projects and other related tasks.
Sometimes you'll also
- Assemble boxes, pack, and/or test products.
- Apply product labels.
Reporting
This role has no direct supervisory duties.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; mechanical aptitude plus technical familiarity with packaging, plastics, and printing equipment.
- 1–3 years' experience operating machinery in a packaging/plastics manufacturing environment.
- Skills and abilities:
- Basic reading, writing, and verbal communication.
- Solid math (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry); work confidently with fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, variables, and formulas.
- Problem-solving using sound logic to address practical issues with multiple concrete variables; interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills; experience with CNC machines.
Equipment you'll handle
Mechanic tools, calipers, gauges, weight scales, extrusion blow mold machines, extrusion machines, injection mold machines, injection blow mold machines, lining machines, labelers, pad printers, and silk-screen units.
Licensing
No formal certifications required; a fork truck license may be required.
Physical expectations
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, moving, talking, hearing, pushing, carrying, reaching, and grasping.
- Normal mental/visual attention with manual coordination; periods of concentrated focus.
- Near and far acuity, sharp focus, depth/spatial judgment, and color recognition.
- Light to medium work: exert up to 50 lbs continuously and up to 50 lbs frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move items.
Where you'll work
Manufacturing space near moving mechanical parts, with exposure to noise, dust, higher temperatures, heat from equipment, hot water, hot plastics, and heater bands.
PPE may include hair net, safety glasses, earplugs, and gloves.
