Role Overview:

The Driver Education and Safety Clerk assists the Program Director of Driver's Education Program and Driver Safety Program in achieving agency performance metrics, adhering to BMV policies and procedures, and the implementation of process improvement across the programs. You will be a frontline contact for the BMV Driver's Education Program and Driver Safety Program. You will provide timely and accurate customer service to both customers and vendor representatives. Utilizing good communication skills, computer skills, and on-the-job training, you will help enhance the program management and oversight.

Payrate:

This intermittent position starts at $15.17 per hour.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Use job knowledge and data reporting skills to ensure proper credential details are applied.
  • Maintain privacy of customer and all related records.
  • Assist with additional operational needs of the department as requested.
  • Communicate to vendor/provider relationship leaders on compliance and customer needs.
  • Utilize attention to detail skills to ensure accuracy when applying Driver Safety 4-point credit to customer files/records.

What Youll Need for Success:

Required:

  • High Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year work experience.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

Additional qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail skills.
  • Top-notch communication skills
  • Customer service experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of business-related software including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to promptly gain competency with the BMV STARS applications as well as Federal and State Statutes and Regulations pertaining to motor vehicle laws.
  • Critical thinking skills, such as the ability to use independent judgment and discernment with IAC, as well as working with BMV licensed driver training schools, BMV licensed driver training school instructors and the general public.
  • Ability to relate tactfully, but decisively to all types of people and situations which may require a calm disposition, alertness, quick reflexes, and patience.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 1+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
