Position Overview

Swampscott Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled, collaborative, and dedicated Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to join our student services team at the elementary level. In this role, your primary function will be to provide vital behavioral support, conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, and design evidence-based interventions to foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment for both general and special education students.

Because our students, classroom teams, and specialized programs rely on your consistent clinical oversight, modeling, and crisis intervention frameworks to maintain a safe and functional learning environment, punctuality and reliable attendance are essential to the success of this role. Essential Functions

Behavioral Assessment & Intervention Design

  • Clinical Assessments: Conduct thorough Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and design comprehensive, evidence-based Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).

  • Data Systems: Create, implement, and manage objective data-collection procedures used to track student interventions. Regularly graph and analyze data collected by teachers and paraprofessionals to adjust plans, accommodations, and curriculum modifications.

  • Fidelity & Accountability: Conduct regular observations and integrity checks to ensure classroom teachers and paraprofessionals are implementing behavioral intervention plans accurately and with fidelity.

IEP Compliance & Team Collaboration

  • IEP Development: Review and edit Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals for behavioral needs. Ensure that all behavioral objectives in each student's IEP are clearly addressed, legally compliant, and implemented with clinical fidelity.

  • Case Management Support: Write comprehensive IEP progress reports, update current performance data, develop measurable goals and benchmarks, author annual behavioral summaries, and actively participate in multi-disciplinary IEP Team meetings.

  • Staff & Family Coaching: Train school staff (including paraprofessionals), students, and families on the implementation of specialized skill acquisition and behavioral reduction procedures.

  • Consultative Support: Act as a behavioral consultant to classroom staff, special education teams, families, and caregivers to bridge behavioral supports across home and school environments.

Administrative Communication & Reliability

  • Proactive Reporting: Communicate proactively and bring major student or behavioral concerns to the Student Services Administrator and building leadership in a timely, systematic manner.

  • Consistent Attendance: Maintain strict punctuality and consistent daily attendance to support building safety protocols and therapeutic continuity.

  • District Directives: Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Building Principal, and/or Director of Student Services.

Prerequisite Training and Experience

  • Certification: Active certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with a valid, verifiable license on the BACB website (Required).

  • Education: Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field (Required).

  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a practicing BCBA, with explicit, verifiable experience working within a public school setting (Required).

  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must have a proven ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and empathetically, both orally and in writing, with children, families, and adult staff members.

  • Compliance: Successful completion of a Massachusetts CORI and fingerprint-based national criminal background check.

  • Stamina & Mobility: This position requires significant mobility to move quickly between classrooms to observe and respond to behavioral crises; long periods of sitting, standing, and walking; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Communication & Senses: Clear talking or hearing in person and by telephone to consult with staff and de-escalate students.

  • Vision: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus to track student behaviors dynamically across multiple environments.

  • Environment: Possible exposure to high-stress behavioral environments, ultraviolet lights (monitors/copiers), and various hazards common to a traditional elementary school building.
