Blessey Marine Services, Inc. owns and operates one of the youngest multi-faceted inland tank barge and vessel fleets in the United States.   

We are in search of a Boat Maintenance Planner for our Harahan, LA office. 


JOB TITLE:                  Boat Maintenance Planner

Reports to:                    Maintenance Manager

Supervises:                   This position has no supervisory responsibilities

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Coordinate the activities of the Boat Maintenance Department and ensure planning/scheduling objectives are met by performing the following duties:              

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·         Work closely with boat maintenance department management and appropriate members of other departments to ensure that repair and maintenance priorities are understood and properly assigned.

·         Use all appropriate means of communication to function as the primary point of contact for all boat maintenance and repair related concerns and activities.

·         Conduct all necessary intra- and inter-departmental communication to ensure that all relevant persons are updated on maintenance and repair activities. Report on daily maintenance & repair status, keeping in touch with all department staff for updates; represent boat maintenance department in morning meeting.

·         Monitor locations and activities of boats that need attention and dispatch/schedule the appropriate Port Engineer and/or vendor to handle the assigned task.

·         Monitor the renewal and annual inspection dates of boats with US Coast Guard and/or ABS certificates. Notify other departments and schedule the appropriate renewal and annual inspection. Dispatch the appropriate staff to facilitate the inspection.

·         Ensure that port engineers and vendors submit a follow-up report for all work done. Create and track work orders and purchase orders related to repair, maintenance, audit and inspection tasks. Coordinate with port engineers to keep information correct and current.

·        Review boat maintenance records and ensure that all regular maintenance of boats is performed as prescribed. Coordinate updates of open items in database on a daily basis. i.e.: add information to the “requires repairs/needs attention” record or update after completion.

·         Utilize computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SAP, to manage and track all maintenance activities.

·         Assume other duties and assist department management with other tasks, as directed. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in the English language.
  • High School diploma or GED required; College preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of Clerical experience required.
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software.  Experience with operating software, such as SAP, also desired.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures.
  • Ability to operate most standard office equipment.
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient spelling, grammar and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

LANGUAGE SKILLS                                                     

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS                                             

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY                                                  

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires driving a vehicle as necessary for errands and business-related meetings. Employee and/or applicant must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence.
