Description
THE AGENCY
The General Services Agency (GSA) is comprised of Fleet Services, Facilities, Procurement, Special Services, Security Business Support, and the Parks Department. GSA is responsible for a broad spectrum of services to all County departments and agencies. It requires a diverse workforce to accomplish the GSA mission of contributing to the quality of life in Ventura County by partnering with their customers to provide expertise and cost-effective service delivery, and foster the preservation of natural resources.
THE POSITION
Under general supervision performs repairs, modifications, fabrications, painting and refinishing of automobiles, trucks, heavy construction equipment, exteriors and interiors; and performs other related duties as required.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work well with others in a team environment and possess excellent customer service skills. The candidate will have four (4) or more years of experience removal and installation of damaged body parts and components, color matching, frame rack, testing, and repair and removal of electronic and electrical automotive equipment. ASE Master Certification in Auto Collision Repair is desirable but not needed.
CERTIFICATION PAY: Incumbents in the classification are eligible for certification pay and for satisfactory completion of any three (3) of the ASE Certifications B2 to B5 shall receive a two percent (2%) incentive of their base pay per biweekly pay period; for satisfactory completion of four (4) of the ASE Certifications B2 to B5, incumbents shall receive an additional three percent (3%) incentive of their base pay per biweekly pay period.
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Incumbents may be eligible for an educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associates, Bachelors, or Masters degree that is not required for the classification.

Body/Paint Mechanic is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
NOTE: This classification is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an agency shop arrangement which mandates all a Regular employees to either join Local 501 of IUOE and pay dues as a member OR either pay a service fee to Local 501 or direct that an amount equivalent to the service fee be distributed to a qualified charitable organization.

EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE
Considerable auto body and paint experience which has led to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. The required knowledge, skills, and abilities can also be obtained by two (2) years of journey level experience in body and fender repairs, including experience with welding, and paint refinishing on vehicles and equipment.

Working knowledge of: testing and techniques necessary to ensure the reliability and safety of a vehicles frame, chassis and running gear; methods, tools and equipment used in body and fender work; methods, tools, equipment and materials used in painting and refinishing automobiles, trucks and other equipment.
Working skills in the use of tools and equipment used in body and fender work; use of welding equipment, use of painting and refinishing equipment; use of welding, painting, and refinishing equipment.
Working ability to perform body and fender work at the journey level including repairing, modifying and/or painting automobiles, trucks and other equipment; set up and operate welding equipment to accomplish precision welding on various types of metals; work independently from written and oral instructions, diagrams, schematics, sketches, specifications and rough drafts; itemize repair estimates of cost and parts necessary to repair damaged equipment; establish and maintain effective relations with others; provide lead direction to subordinate personnel.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE - qualifying: All applicants are required to complete and submit the questionnaire for this examination at time of filing. WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: An un-proctored, internet-based job-related written exam will be conducted to evaluate participating candidates knowledge of general cleaning/restroom cleaning, basic math, following written orders, reading comprehension, and parks patrol. Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
ELIGIBLE LIST
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-Term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies within the General Services Agency, Parks Department. There is currently one (1) regular position with the General Services Agency.
Candidates successfully completing the written examination may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
