Full Time Part Time St. John, Indiana Posted 3 weeks ago Back to jobs Apply We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Body Shop Estimator to join our growing team. This position plays a critical role in evaluating damage, preparing accurate repair estimates, coordinating with customers and technicians, and ensuring emergency vehicles are returned to service quickly and safely. Position Summary The Body Shop Estimator is responsible for inspecting fire apparatus, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles to assess repair needs and prepare detailed estimates for collision damage, refurbishment projects, warranty repairs, and body shop work. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Inspect fire apparatus, ambulances, and emergency vehicles to determine repair scope and costs. Prepare accurate estimates for collision repairs, body work, paint work, refurbishments, and component replacements. Communicate directly with customers regarding repair recommendations, timelines, and project status. Coordinate with technicians, service managers, parts departments, and vendors to ensure efficient repair planning. Identify required parts, materials, labor hours, and subcontracted services. Review repair orders and supplement estimates as additional damage is identified. Assist with warranty claim documentation and insurance-related estimates when applicable. Maintain detailed records, photographs, and repair documentation. Monitor project progress and communicate updates to customers throughout the repair process. Ensure estimates and repair plans meet manufacturer, safety, and industry standards. Support continuous improvement initiatives within the body shop and service department. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Experience preparing repair estimates in an automotive, truck, heavy equipment, or emergency vehicle environment. Strong understanding of body repair procedures, paint processes, and vehicle construction. Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications. Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to read technical documents, repair manuals, and specifications. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Preferred Experience with fire apparatus, ambulances, heavy-duty trucks, or specialty vehicles. Knowledge of insurance claim processes and warranty administration. I-CAR, ASE, EVT, or related industry certifications. Experience with fleet maintenance and emergency vehicle repair operations. Physical Requirements Ability to work in a shop environment and perform vehicle inspections. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work around heavy equipment, tools, and moving vehicles.
