Job Description :
  • The Sputter Target Bond Operator is responsible for the assembly and bonding of sputter targets to backing plates in preparation for physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating processes.
  • This role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with technical specifications through precise bonding, surface preparation, and inspection activities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and bond sputter targets to backing plates using approved bonding processes and procedures.
  • Perform shot blasting, grit, polishing, and surface preparation operations to ensure proper bonding conditions.
  • Apply and verify base layers prior to spray or bonding processes as required.
  • Measure bonded targets using precision measuring tools and verify compliance to technical drawings and specifications.
  • Accurately document all measurements and process data in the MES system. Identify nonconforming conditions, escalate issues promptly, and support corrective actions.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and work instruction requirements.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and proper care of tools and equipment.
  • Support productivity, defect reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives within the bond sector.
  • Maintain area to be 5S ready at all times.
Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree or vocational training in mechanics, electromechanics, manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to follow standardized processes in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and MES documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in sputter target bonding, PVD-related manufacturing, or advanced materials processing.
  • Experience with shot blasting, grit, polishing, or thermal spray processes.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
  • Qualified candidates should have 2+ years of experience in the required field.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials up to [weight limit, e.g., 50 lbs] with or without accommodation.
  • Dexterity to handle precision components and measurement tools.
