Summary

This position performs clerical tasks involving the processing of incarcerated persons within the correctional facility.

Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only)

• Obtains initial personal data from incarcerated persons being processed into a facility through personal interviews.
• Enters information and charges into the Offender Management System (OMS) using appropriate format, codes, and abbreviations.
• Completes PREA initial screener documentation for victimization.
• Checks completed booking reports and commitment paperwork for accuracy.
• Conducts checks of county, state, federal, and nationwide warrants to ensure that incarcerated persons do not have outstanding warrants.
• Responds to inquiries and search files for requested information.
• Creates Classification files for classification staff.
• Creates inmate binders for records staff.
• Maintains court orders.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven clerical experience and working knowledge of general office policies, procedures, and practices.
• Working knowledge of the functions, services, procedures, and regulations concerning intake processing within correctional settings.
• Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
• Ability to follow established procedures.
• Ability to work with antagonistic persons or with the public under adverse conditions.
• Ability to work in noisy room settings.
• Ability to proof own work and the work of others.
• Ability to perform accurate computations and verification of data.
• Ability to work effectively with others including the incarcerated person population.

Working Environment

Standard jail facility and office environment. Incumbent may be involved in sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease. No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments.
