About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our growing construction company in SE Portland. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity, ideal for someone who is looking to prove their value and grow into a long-term role. We're looking for the right person-not looking to rush into a permanent hire until the fit is right.

This role will partner closely with an existing payroll team member and support day-to-day accounting functions, month-end close, and construction-related billing.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Prepare and post journal entries
• Handle billing through general contractor platforms
• Perform account reconciliations
• Track and process union benefits, primarily maintained in spreadsheets
• Assist with and complete month-end close
• Understand and apply accrual vs. cash accounting concepts
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
• Collaborate with internal team members to support accounting operations

Software & Tools

• ProContractor (Viewpoint product)
  Training resources will be provided

Qualifications

• Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience
• Strong understanding of AP, AR, reconciliations, and journal entries
• Working knowledge of accrual vs. cash accounting
• Comfortable working in spreadsheets (Excel)
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through

Preferred Qualifications

• Construction industry experience (highly preferred but not required)
• Experience with union benefits or job-cost accounting
• Familiarity with general contractor billing platforms
