Position Overview

Tamarack Waldorf School is seeking a detail-oriented, reliable, and proactive Bookkeeper to support the financial operations of the school. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a small-business/non-profit environment, has excellent organizational skills, and enjoys being part of a value-driven school community.

This role reports to the Administrative Director and works closely with school leadership to ensure accurate accounting and financial stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including data entry of journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data.

Prepare financial reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks to maintain accurate records.

Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and governmental accounting regulations where applicable.

Manage payroll processing and tax preparation activities.

Conduct account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities in financial data.

Support budgeting processes and provide insights for financial planning.

Maintain organized documentation of all financial transactions for audit purposes.

Collaborate with auditors during audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

Manage tuition billing and payment tracking in collaboration with administrative staff.

Maintain insurance benefits and school liability insurance.

Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information.

Provide timely, clear communication with staff, vendors, and families regarding financial matters.

Qualifications

Required:

Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, preferably within non-profit sectors.

Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheets.

Strong understanding of GAAP principles, journal entries, debits & credits, and general ledger accounting.

Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, account analysis, and financial report writing.

Strong analytical skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all financial records.

Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment. This position is integral to maintaining the financial health of our organization through precise recordkeeping and compliance with applicable standards. Preferred:

QuickBooks certification.

Experience in non-profit accounting.

Familiarity with Waldorf education or independent school environments.

Experience with tuition management systems.

Bachelor''s degree.

Associate''s Degree in Business or Accounting.

Hours & Compensation

Competitive hourly wage or salary based on experience and qualifications.

Flexible schedule (20-30 hours/week depending on candidate preference and school needs).
