POSITION: HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VOLLEYBALL ASSISTANT COACH

JOB GOAL: To instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, techniques, strategy, conditioning, and safety practices necessary for individual and team successTo assist the head coach in instructing student-athletes in the fundamental skills, techniques, strategies, conditioning, and safety practices necessary for individual and team success in boys volleyball. The assistant coach will model and reinforce behaviors that promote good sportsmanship, self-discipline, teamwork, confidence, perseverance, leadership, and pride of accomplishment. The assistant coach is expected to continue developing their coaching knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities, including clinics, certifications, observations, and collaboration with other coaches.

REPORTS TO: The Activities Director, under the supervision of the Head Boys Volleyball Coach, who provides direction and evaluation in conjunction with the high school principal.

SUPERVISES: Student-athletes during practices, competitions, team travel, and other team activities as assigned by the Head Coach and Activities Director.

GENERAL:

  • The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the entire school system. Public exposure is a considerable responsibility, and community/parent expectations for competitive performance can be demanding; however, these pressures must never override the objectives of good sportsmanship, student safety, positive character development, and student well-being.
  • The position includes other unusual aspects such as extended hours, travel, supervision responsibilities, and the inherent risk of athletic injury associated with gymnastics activities.
  • It is the express intent of this job description to provide sufficient guidance for the position. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that the coach will exercise common sense, sound judgment, and professionalism.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all co-curricular and athletic policies approved by the Kaukauna Area School District Board of Education and supports their implementation within the boys volleyball program.
  • Maintains knowledge of current Kaukauna Area School District, Fox Valley Association (FVA), and WIAA rules, regulations, and expectations related to boys volleyball.
  • Understands the proper administrative chain of command and communicates concerns or requests through appropriate channels.
  • Assists the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the boys volleyball program.
  • Assists with planning and conducting practices that emphasize skill development, teamwork, conditioning, strategy, and preparation for competition.
  • Instructs student-athletes in proper volleyball techniques, fundamentals, and game strategies while promoting safe participation at all times.
  • Supervises student-athletes during practices, contests, team travel, and other team activities.
  • Promotes positive sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and respectful behavior among student-athletes, coaches, officials, opponents, and spectators.
  • Serves as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and respect in all interactions.
  • Supports the academic success and eligibility expectations of student-athletes.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with the Head Coach, student-athletes, parents/guardians, administration, and other staff members.
  • Assists with equipment distribution, inventory, care, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Helps foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture that encourages participation, accountability, and personal growth.
  • Assists with program responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and Activities Director.
  • Represents Kaukauna High School and the Kaukauna Area School District in a positive and professional manner at all times.
