The Program Director & Clinical AST/ASO/FULL Professor will provide strategic leadership in the development and growth of a multidisciplinary Brain Metastases Program within the Preston A. Wells Jr. Brain Tumor Center at the University of Florida. This faculty role focuses on advancing research, enhancing program infrastructure, and integrating clinical efforts across neurosurgery, radiation oncology, and medical oncology. Responsibilities include oversight of clinical program development, coordination of multidisciplinary clinics and tumor boards, protocol development, and expansion of clinical trials in brain metastases.The Lillian S. Wells Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida, College of Medicine is committed to providing comprehensive clinical services for the diagnosis, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients suffering from diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system, including brain tumors, aneurysms, stroke, epilepsy, functional disorders, and spinal disorders and injuries. Our clinical care mission also extends throughout North Central Florida through regional neurosurgery programs. We offer the full spectrum of neurosurgical and neuro-oncology treatment options for both adults and pediatric patients. Our research labs and investigator-led initiatives and clinical trials are developing promising new treatments for neurological diseases that are extremely difficult to treat with conventional therapies. The Department of Neurosurgery offers education and training programs such as ACGME-accredited neurosurgery residency programs and fellowship programs.

Job Description:

The Brain Metastases Program Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, and growth of a multidisciplinary Brain Metastases Program within the Preston A. Wells Jr. Brain Tumor Center at the University of Florida. This role is responsible for advancing research initiatives and strengthening program infrastructure focused on metastatic brain tumors, while fostering collaboration across neurosurgery, radiation oncology, and medical oncology. 

The Program Director will lead clinical program development, coordinate multidisciplinary clinics, oversee tumor boards, and guide protocol development to support innovative and evidence-based care. This position will also drive the expansion of clinical trials related to brain metastases, including investigator-initiated and translational research efforts.

The role encompasses responsibilities in research, administrative and program leadership, clinical care, and teaching. The Program Director will play a central role in strengthening data infrastructure, advancing quality improvement efforts, and promoting integrated, patient‑centered models of care delivery.

This leadership position supports the Center’s mission to expand access to advanced therapies, improve coordination of care for patients with metastatic brain tumors, and establish the University of Florida as a national leader in brain metastases research and treatment.

Tenure and non-tenure tracks are available for this faculty role. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

MD or Ph.D and/or Ph.D/MD

  • Proven ability to lead and grow multidisciplinary clinical and research programs in an academic medical center
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills with the ability to execute complex initiatives
  • Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships across specialties and departments
  • Established record of securing research funding and leading clinical or translational research efforts
  • Experience developing and expanding clinical trials, including investigator-initiated studies
  • Commitment to advancing patient-centered, team-based care models
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring faculty, trainees, and research staff
  • Ability to drive innovation and adapt to evolving clinical and research landscapes
  • Strong focus on quality improvement, data-driven decision-making, and outcomes measurement
