Description
Summary of Position
The Brake Operator is responsible for setting up and operating press brake equipment to bend, form, and fabricate metal components according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions. This position ensures parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and within specified tolerances while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Position Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work orders, and specifications.
Set up and operate press brake equipment to fabricate metal parts according to required dimensions and tolerances.
Select appropriate tooling and perform machine adjustments as needed for various materials and part configurations.
Verify dimensions and quality of finished parts using measuring and inspection equipment, including tape measures, calipers, protractors, and other precision tools.
Make necessary adjustments to machine settings to ensure product quality and dimensional accuracy.
Inspect materials and completed parts for defects and report quality concerns to the supervisor.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Assist supervisors and co-workers as directed.
Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve quality, productivity, and workplace safety.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of metal fabrication processes.
Ability to accurately use measuring and inspection equipment.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to solve problems and make machine adjustments independently.
Ability to work effectively with supervisors and team members.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Strong verbal communication skills and ability to follow written instructions.
Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials as required.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
Previous press brake operation experience preferred; metal fabrication experience is a plus.
Ability to learn machine setup, tooling selection, and fabrication techniques.
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
