This opportunity entails being responsible for managing assigned project(s) throughout their full lifecycle, including developing the scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents, participating in contract negotiations, and overseeing the delivery of the project plan to successfully accomplish HNTB's 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget, and to the client's satisfaction on every project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively manages the budget, schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications in support of the project's objectives.
  • Provides high-level technical tasks while managing and reviewing design-related specifications, calculations, reports, and plans.
  • Coordinates with internal and external partners, including cross-discipline and functional teams, to address and problem-solve design-related issues or concerns.
  • The Project Manager I - Engineering typically manages project teams for one or more strategic projects.

What Youll Do

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence to the schedule and budget on projects.
  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team's work within the technical discipline.
  • Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance, and compensation reviews, and succession.
  • Coordinates schedules and approves timecards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

What Youll Bring

  • Winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4for4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client satisfaction) on smaller projects.
  • Identifying and escalating risk and change management issues, with oversight from more experienced staff.
  • Leading a team for a smaller project or task order with no or few subconsultants.
  • Leading and performing field inspections of complex bridges and tunnels according to FHWA's NBIS and NTIS as well as other state and federal standards.
  • Using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver projects or task orders.
  • Leveraging the Office Management Team to assist in implementing HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
  • Interfacing with your client-level peer on a smaller project or task order.
  • Providing technical guidance to team and task leads as well as performing portions of the technical work.
  • Developing high-quality and detailed inspection reports accurately depicting existing conditions and critical findings.
  • Developing condition quantities and repair costs for National Bridge Element Level and National Tunnel Element Level reporting.
  • Performing and reviewing structural analysis, design, and plans as needed.
  • Performing and reviewing load rating analysis, calculation, and report development as needed.
  • Assisting in construction phase services such as submittal review and field support.
  • Providing technical guidance and oversight for staff throughout the project/task life.
  • Mentoring junior staff in their development, particularly inspection team members.
  • Monitoring quality and budget on all assigned tasks.

What We Prefer

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • 10 years relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Bridge and tunnel inspection experience with local agencies such as MassDOT, MBTA, RIDOT, and CTDOT
  • Successful completion of FHWA-NHI's Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges course.
  • Experience with MassDOT's Bridge & Tunnel Management System (4D) database and other local/federal inspection reporting databases such as Bentley's AssetWise.
  • OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification.

Pay Range

The approximate pay range for Massachusetts is $115,189.80 - $180,168.68. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
