Position Overview ----------------

The position of a Bridges and Structures Lead Carpenter is a skilled position working as a lead carpenter and capable of serving as the lead person of the crew in the absence of the Bridges and Structures Foreman. This position requires several years of previous bridge work experience.

Duties and Responsibilities -----------------------------

• Serves as lead person by reading plans, coordinating the work of skilled and semi-skilled equipment operators, bridge laborers, and carpenters. • Builds and assembles wood forms and form systems using saws, hammers, drills, and other power tools as required. • Digs ditches and trenches. • Installs retaining walls. • Compacts and levels dirt to grade specifications. • Shovels cement and other materials into portable cement mixers. • Mixes, pours, and spreads concrete. • Uses hand tools such as hammer, shovels, chainsaws, drills, hydraulic tools, etc. for necessary tasks. • Provides instruction to others concerning the finish concrete process. • Operates heavy equipment. • Provides assistance to other workers. • Erects and disassembles scaffolding, shoring, barricades, etc. • Loads and unloads equipment.

Education and/or Experience -----------------------------

• Three to four years minimum Bridge Carpenter experience. • High School education or equivalent preferred. • Ability to read and understand construction plans preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required -----------------------------------------

• Attention to Detail. • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. • Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures and OSHA regulations. • Able to comply with all company policies and procedures. • Ability to travel and work overtime, including nights and weekends when required. • Must have a strong work ethic. • Valid drivers license preferred. • Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random drug screen.

Physical Demands -----------------

The physical demands below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Able to lift and carry in excess of 50 pounds. • Able to stand, kneel, squat, bend, push, pull, climb, and stretch regularly while performing the essential functions of the job. • Able to push and pull with hands and arms and move repetitively. • Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable. • Able to work around loud noises. • Coordination between hand, eyes, feet to guide tools, equipment, and objects is required. • Able to walk and work on uneven terrain.

Environmental Working Conditions --------------------------------

• All work is performed outside in heat, cold, and inclement weather. • Exposure to all elements of nature. • Exposure to all types of terrain. • Exposure to loud noise. • Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc. • Work in close proximity to heavy traffic.
