Position Title Budget Analyst Job Duties

Butler Community College is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Budget Analyst to lead and support college-wide budgeting, financial planning, and analysis efforts. The Budget Analyst is responsible for developing and managing the institution's annual operating budget by working closely with departments across campus.

The Budget Analyst plays a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and transparency, including assisting with the preparation of the college's legal budget and coordination with external agencies. This position also contributes to strategic decision-making by providing financial analysis for programs and projects, helping leadership understand the financial impact of institutional initiatives.

In addition to core budgeting functions, this role supports administrative priorities such as developing tuition and fee recommendations, implementing financial controls, and managing auxiliary budgets-including student housing, food service, and bookstore operations. The Budget Analyst also collaborates on special projects, chairs budget committees, and partners with departments to deliver meaningful financial insights.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required knowledge and skills

A. Knowledge and experience with the budget process and preparations.

B. Must have strong computer experience, including spreadsheet and database applications.

C. Competency in practical applications of generally accepted accounting principles of fund accounting for colleges and governmental entities.

D. Knowledge of Kansas Statutes pertaining to the accounting and the internal controls required for community colleges.

E. Ability to manage multiple priorities.

F. Strong written and oral communication skills required.

Required experience

A. Substantial experience with accounting systems, cash receipting, financial analysis and establishment of financial controls.

B. Substantial experience in a position demonstrating excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.

C. At least 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.

D. Experience with continuous quality improvement preferred.

Required educational background

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, business administration or related business field is required.
