The Building Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of the Senior Center. This position ensures that all public and employee areas are clean, well-organized, and properly maintained, contributing to a welcoming and professional environment for members, visitors, and staff.
Primary duties are cleaning, housekeeping, and operation and maintenance of building equipment. Duties also include maintenance of grounds, walks, lawns & shrubbery. The Custodian is also responsible for setting up and breaking down of furnishings needed for various classes/programs during the day. The maintenance duties are semi-skilled and do not require trade or craft knowledge.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The incumbent works in various municipal buildings and locations, primary location being Senior Center. While performing the duties of the Custodian, the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the Senior Center. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and materials. Occasional outdoor work required during inclement weather (e.g., snow removal). Must be available for possible emergency call-ins including evenings and weekends, may be responsible for opening and closing the building each day (turning alarm on and off) and staying open for meetings until all occupants clear the building.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to utilize all equipment, devices, tools used in custodial work. Move throughout the Senior Center which may include flights of stairs if elevator is in use or out of order. Regular and sustained periods of strenuous physical exertion, requiring stability to lift, carry and position heavy objects utilizing proper mechanics and techniques. May periodically be required to operate a computer to access e-mail. Continuous walking, standing, climbing; frequent periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical positions. Must be able to push/pull/lift objects weighing up to 50lbs.
HOURS:
40 hours per week
Monday – Friday 10:00am – 6:30pm
SALARY:
Starting rate $23.90
Annual increases up to $34.08 per hour
