Position Overview
The Building Envelope Inspector is responsible for conducting field inspections and assessments of building envelope systems including roofing, waterproofing, air/vapor barriers, cladding, fenestrations, and insulation to ensure they are installed according to design specifications, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable building codes. This role supports new construction, renovation, and restoration projects with a focus on durability, energy efficiency, and weather resistance
Responsibilities
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in construction technology, architecture, or engineering preferred 3-5 years of experience in building envelope inspections, building construction, QA/QC, or materials testing Knowledge of roofing, waterproofing, curtain wall systems, insulation, and air/vapor barriers Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASTM, IBC, AAMA, ABAA, NRCA, RCI) Certifications such as ABAA Certified Inspector, RRO (Registered Roof Observer), or IIBEC credentials preferred or willingness to obtain Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, product specifications, and technical manuals Excellent observational, documentation, and communication skills.
Proficiency with field reporting software, tablets, or inspection apps Ability to work outdoors in variable weather and access active construction sites (including ladders, scaffolds, or lifts) Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites
Travel Requirements
This position requires moderate travel, approximately up to 40% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work.
