SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA,Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 12 bachelors degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Summary of Responsibilities
The Building Equipment Mechanic performs routine building maintenance work across campus facilities and equipment, while supporting modern and emerging building technologies. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for preventive maintenance, use of automated and robotic equipment, building inspections, and basic repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and building systems.
This role is a key operational team member, supporting campus comfort, sustainability, safety, and event readiness through customer service, building automation systems, inspection technologies, and field observations. This position is union covered, reports to the department supervisor, and works a regular shift of 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications:
Entry-level experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or building operations
Experience or interest in developing expertise in a specific focus area, such as:
HVAC systems or controls
Electrical systems and lighting controls
Plumbing or mechanical systems
Event setup and campus operations
Grounds, exterior systems, or site infrastructure
Experience with building automation systems (BAS/DDC) or mechanical systems
Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and equipment operation
Experience with or ability to learn emerging technologies, including:
Building automation systems
Robotic maintenance or custodial equipment
Inspection tools (infrared cameras, air quality sensors, temperature monitoring devices)
Experience working in LEED-certified, sustainable, or high-performance buildings

Compensation & Work Schedule
This is a 40 hour per week position working a regular shift of 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.. This is a union covered position. As defined by the current classified bargained agreement, newly hired employees shall be placed between Step 1 $6,242 and Step 5 $6,625 of the salary schedule in Appendix A of the IUOE Bargaining Agreement. Ongoing (Step 6- Step 11) step advancement is defined by the IUOE bargained agreement. Salary placement for current IUOE employees is per the IUOE bargained agreement.
