Building HVAC Systems Project Engineer

About the Role

You start the day in Roanoke, VA reviewing a new K–12 renovation: the HVAC concept you sketched yesterday becomes a refined system layout, informed by load calculations and energy modeling. By mid‑morning, you’re coordinating with architects to fine‑tune equipment rooms, then mentoring a junior engineer on best practices for duct routing in Revit. After lunch, you translate client priorities into clear design decisions, update schedules and documentation, and verify that performance, efficiency, and code compliance stay front and center. Before you wrap, you check progress against milestones to keep delivery on course and quality high.

What You’ll Do

• Plan and design HVAC systems for education, civic, arts, and commercial facilities with a sharp focus on performance, efficiency, and applicable codes.
• Own the mechanical scope from concept through construction documents, ensuring clarity and completeness.
• Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to align design solutions with project goals.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers, sharing standards, workflows, and technical judgment.
• Execute load calculations, energy modeling, and system analyses using tools such as Trace and ComCheck.
• Track scope, schedule, and quality to meet delivery commitments.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to internal teams and clients.
• Continuously refine design processes and templates to elevate consistency and outcomes.

What You Bring

• Licensed Mechanical Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• 7–10 years of mechanical engineering experience (preferred), with a focus on building HVAC.
• Proficiency with load and energy tools (Trace, ComCheck); experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Revit proficiency preferred; strong verbal and visual presentation skills.
• Track record of teamwork and mentorship in a collaborative setting.
