Minimum Qualifications

Possess two years of field experience in the HVHZ. Completing an eight-hour HVHZ training course approved by the BORA may substitute for the required HVHZ experience. Plus, meet one of the following requirements: (1) Five years of construction experience in a supervisory capacity AND either a. Current GC license issued by Florida CILB, OR b. Current GC license and a current Certificate of Competency issued by the MDC CTQB; OR (2) Two years of construction experience and a. Associate of Science Degree in Building Code Enforcement OR b. Construction-related curriculum awarded for completion of an educational course accepted by BORA & a current GC license issued by the Florida CILB, OR c. Current GC Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Eligibility issued by the MDC CTQB; OR (3) A current registration from the State of Florida as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer and building construction experience; OR (4) Five years of experience in the construction industry and certification as a Building Inspector (Commercial Roofing) in MDC & holding a current Certificate of Competency or a Certificate of Eligibility from the MDC CTQB or the Florida CILB as a General Contractor. Must possess a Driver s License.

Recruitment Notes

The Building Inspector is responsible for examining existing buildings and structures to determine whether violations exist and whether they present a structural life-safety hazard. Responsibilities also include facilitating compliance of non-compliant buildings and structures, investigating complaints of construction without permits, investigating non-compliance with building recertification, and addressing structural life-safety concerns, with written and photographic documentation. Additional responsibilities include notifying the responsible party of violations and non-compliant conditions, uploading written and photographic documentation into case files using a computer in the office and in the field, and organizing and conducting field inspections using a County vehicle. Incumbents in this position are also expected to testify in panel and board hearing proceedings, answer phone calls, respond to emails, and conduct in-person meetings with the public.

All applicants must be eligible for certification by the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals as specified in Chapter 8 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. Certificate and/or license must be in good standing with Miami-Dade Countys Contractor Licensing and Enforcement Section, and/or the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and/or Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board with no pending complaints. Applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to extensive background screening. Applicants holding an active certificate will be required to inactivate their certificate at their own expense upon employment.
