Hourly Salary Range: $30.14 - $44.47
The successful candidate's placement in the salary range will depend upon previous experience in a similar role.

DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position Performs general building inspections to ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal building codes, including electrical, plumbing, and zoning regulations. Evaluates buildings at various stages of construction, checks for code compliance, and investigates potential violations, working closely with contractors, architects, and other city departments. Maintains records of inspections, handles inquiries, and coordinates enforcement efforts to ensure safety and compliance.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Inspects industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during various stages of construction or remodeling and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations of city, state, and federal agencies.
- ¿¿Examines plans and specifications for residential, commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects to determine compliance with the provisions of the city, state and federal codes and regulations.¿
- Inspect damaged or dilapidated buildings for safety. Conducts inspection on fire damaged buildings. Prepares and files reports.
- ¿Conducts field inspections of businesses with tax and liquor licenses to ensure conformance with the building codes and zoning ordinances.¿
- Coordinates inspection and building code investigation activities with other city departments and divisions.
- ¿¿Maintains files of inspections, building code investigations, and issued permits. Reviews files for inactive, revoked, or expired permits and code violations. Initiates action against expired permits to correct code violations.¿
- ¿Responds to questions and provides information about construction site inspections, building code investigations, and code regulations.
- Conducts research and field investigations to determine existing non-conformance status.
- May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience ¿¿in construction, construction management, framing, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, inspections or related experience.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant's full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Professional Licensure and/or Certifications:
- Valid driver's license
- ¿¿International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Inspector Certification (B1), obtain within six (6) months of hire .¿
- ¿¿¿ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification (B2), obtain within six (6) months of hire¿¿.
- Must obtain ICC Residential Combination Inspector (R5) and Commercial Combination Inspector (C5) Certifications within four (4) years of hire.
