Classified-Exempt Position

Parks and Recreation/Cacapon Resort State Park Under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisors, the Building Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled work at the full-performance level in the mechanical or building trades in connection with the maintenance and repair of a 120-room lodge, 31 cabins, Old Inn, park residences, nature center, picnic shelters, horse stable, bathhouse, and park support facilities at Cacapon Resort State Park. Building Maintenance Mechanics are one part of a dedicated and hardworking team and environment at Cacapon Resort State Park.

General work includes but is not limited to installation, upkeep and repair of monitoring of a variety of equipment in the Park Lodge and Cabins. Including safety equipment such as smoke alarms, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and sprinklers in Park Lodge and Cabins. Plumbing work includes installation, upkeep and repair of faucets, shut off valves, water main lines, pumps, water heaters, and pumps. HVAC work includes installation, upkeep and repair of circulator pumps, thermostat systems, air handlers, air filters, ductwork, heat exchangers and PTAC units. Limited electrical work includes installation, upkeep and repair of small light fixtures, power outlets, and switches. Operation of various mechanical tools and equipment including chainsaws, leaf blowers, blowtorch, air compressors, circular saws, excavators, skid steers, and lawn mowers. Additional tasks include but are not limited to answering guest inquiries, delivering firewood to cabins if needed, tending to the lodge fire pit, and evening closing duties such as closing the mountain gate.

Employee will be required to work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and all environments. Must possess good verbal and written communications skills, interact with park visitors in a courteous and professional manner, and maintain efficient working relationships with other staff members. Must be knowledgeable of and comply with all Division of Personnel and State Park policies, procedures, and regulations. Must have flexibility in work schedule; will be required to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Will be required to wear a park uniform. Must possess a valid drivers license. Performs related duties as required. Regular attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: No formal education required.

Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in building maintenance or as a helper in a building trade.

Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
