Inspect and analyze the condition of all buildings and installed equipment maintained by Facilities Management. Inspect/Repair and perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical/electrical equipment, including HVAC systems, boiler systems, sump pumps, etc. Department of Labor inspections for water heaters.
May be asked to assist with other duties related to operations, maintenance, and renovations to buildings and equipment, such as light-duty carpentry, painting, electrical, and other miscellaneous repair and maintenance activities; and respond to emergency and urgent work. There will be regular exposure to disagreeable conditions such as extreme temperature changes, odors, loud noises, cramped spaces, etc.
Regularly stands, lifts, bends, stoops, lifts above shoulders, and carries 50 lbs or more. Appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment), gloves, safety glasses, etc., are provided for use in the workplace. Job requirements include occasional use of respiratory equipment. Therefore, an individual is required to pass a medical exam to ensure physical ability to wear, use, and perform work in respirator equipment.
Position is for 2nd shift work with shift hours of 4 pm to 12 am nightly. The employee in this position may be required to work overtime before 4 pm, or after 12 am, work includes when the university is closed, weekends, and holidays.
The ability to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management, regardless of weather, will be required. Promotional opportunities may be available through an established career development plan.

Building Maintenance Mechanic I - High School/GED with two years of prior work experience in the building trade or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field.
Building Maintenance Mechanic II - High School/GED with three years of prior successful work experience in the building trade and/or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field, plus one year of prior successful work experience in a building trade.
Building Maintenance Mechanic III - High School/GED with four years of prior successful work experience in a building trade and/or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field, plus two years of prior successful work experience in a building trade.
Candidate position placement is dependent upon years of experience and availability.
Post-secondary education may substitute for years of experience.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Building Maintenance Mechanic III will require an apprentice license in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Knowledge of State and Federal Mechanical and Electrical Codes; knowledge of Safety Regulations; broad knowledge of construction and maintenance.
Ability to access tight spaces to perform the job, pass a respirator fit test, and wear a full face respirator for extended periods.
May need to climb and/or work from stairs, ladders, scaffolds, etc., for extended periods.
Ability to work in a squat position or on knees for extended periods.
Ability to become proficient in the use of the “AIM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
This position requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
Must work safely and promote a safe environment.
Three to five years of experience in a building trade, and/or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field, with additional one to five years prior related work experience.
