Pay Range: $22.14-$30.28 Hourly

The City of Arvada is seeking a reliable and skilled Building Maintenance Worker to support the Arvada Center, a premier cultural and community destination. This position plays a key role in ensuring the Arvada Center's facilities are safe, clean, functional, and welcoming for staff, performers, and the public.

The role performs a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks, including basic electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, and preventative maintenance, and assists with facility setup for performances, classes, and special events. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and takes pride in maintaining a high-profile, public-facing facility.

Scheduled working hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 2:00 pm- 10:30 pm. Days off are Sunday and Monday)

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs general building repair and maintenance to include, but not limited to, minor electrical, HVAC, lighting, lamps & ballasts, plumbing, system furniture, and interior & exterior painting.
  • Secures buildings, unlocks, and locks doors according to daily schedule.
  • Responds to work orders requests for facilities maintenance.
  • Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on all components of city buildings.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, stocks, and organizes supplies in city buildings.
  • Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.

Other Job Functions

  • Sets up and prepares buildings and Arvada Center for special events.
  • Performs custodian work when short staffed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge in proper utilization of all custodial equipment and chemicals.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including the Work Order system & CMMS system.
  • Ability to prioritize maintenance projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand basic HVAC, electrical and plumbing principles.
  • Ability to use ladders and work on rooftop or in crawl spaces.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside during inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Knowledge Skills Abilities Preferred

License & Certification

  • A valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable driving record is required.

Education Degree

  • High School/GED

Education Major

Education Required

  • Yes

Work Experience Related

  • One (1) or more years' experience required in HVAC, plumbing or electrical.

Work Experience Preferred

  • Two (2) or more years' experience in HVAC, plumbing and electrical.

Other Qualifications

  • Must obtain and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Certification.

  • Must pass a criminal background check and a driving record check, if required by the position.

Physical Demands

  • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions. Individuals in strenuous positions must successfully complete a physical examination to ensure their fitness for duty.

Hazards

  • Occasional hazards that are predictable or well protected against (Hazardous waste, ladders, cleaning supplies, trips and falls).

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
