PRINCETON PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD REAPPROVED BUILDING MONITOR April 23, 2019

UNIT AFFILIATION: UNAFFILIATED JOB TITLE: BUILDING MONITOR REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL MAJOR REPONSIBILITY: To provide for the safety of students and staff and the security of the building and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS: A. Possession of a High School Diploma. B. Ability to communicate effectively and relate well with students, staff, parents, administration, community members, and law enforcement. C. Willingness to demonstrate initiative, act consistently, and follow through on issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, lavatories, outside facilities, parking lots, fields and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the security of the buildings and grounds.

B. Thoroughly examine doors and windows to determine that they are secure.

C. Assist visitors with directions and secure proper identification.

D. Alert administrators to situations that might disrupt the daily school operation.

E. Encourage students to move throughout the building in a cooperative and timely fashion.

F. Report incidences of smoking, vandalism, disruptive behavior, and unwelcome visitor to the principal or assistant principal.

G. Assist with crowd control when needed.

H. Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, doors and/or windows needing repair, leaking water pipes and building doors or windows left unlocked.

I. Permit authorized persons to enter the building.

J. Display professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.

K. Protect confidentiality of records and information about students and staff and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.

L. Assist district with investigations of alleged wrong-doing.

M. Assist building administrators with cases related to truancy and non-resident students attending school district illegally.

N. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal. HUMAN RESOURCES MISSION STATEMENT:
