Description

Attention graduates of Hennepin Countys Building Operation Technician pathway program only.

Hennepin County Facility Services is seeking candidates who have completed the Project for Pride in Living (PPL)/Hennepin County Building Operations Technician program to fill current and future facilities maintenance vacancies across the county.

Facilities Maintenance Workers care for general mechanical and facilities maintenance. Facilities Maintenance-Operations Engineers and trainees oversee equipment including boilers, pumps, air handlers, exhaust fans, generators, USTs, building automation systems, and computerized maintenance management systems.

This posting will be used to fill vacancies at any of the levels. Selection will be based upon the qualifications of the applicants.

Trainee Facilities Maintenance Worker: $42,640.00 - $43,514.99 Annually

Facilities Maintenance Worker: $42,640.00 - $47,170.23 Annually

Trainee Facilities Maintenance-Operations Engineer: $56,352.89 - $64,354.02 Annually

Facilities Maintenance-Operations Engineer: $61,088.14 - $69,761.20 Annually

In this position, you will:

  • Operate, repair, maintain and diagnose building systems and equipment such as; boilers, heat pumps, heat exchangers, water heaters, HVAC control systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS), Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems including chillers, package and split A/C units, cooling towers, compressors, pneumatics, direct digital controls, emergency generators, circulating pumps, fan units, and others.
  • Perform and develop preventative maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Respond and coordinate repairs to building systems and equipment.
  • Learn, understand, and explain construction documents and specifications, shop drawings, operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Respond to building emergencies and after hour calls for repair.
  • Maintain and prepare reports and logs (e.g. preventative maintenance reports, work order reports, boiler operations logs, and fuel).

Best Qualified Candidates will have:

  • Completed the PPL/Hennepin County Building Operations Technician program and have one year or more of full-time equivalent experience that included skilled mechanical and facilities maintenance in heating ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and boiler-operation maintenance and repair work. (Education may be substituted for experience.)
  • A valid drivers license may be required for certain facilities.
  • First Class C boilers license is preferred but may not be required for certain locations.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing a wide range of equipment and building systems.
  • Knowledge in operating BAS, fire protection systems, VAV, and DDC systems.
  • Basic understanding of water treatment for HVAC systems.
  • Ability to:
  • Be on call and/or respond to after hour calls, including weekends, and holidays.
  • Lift and carry up to 100 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Climb and stand on ladders for prolonged periods of time to perform maintenance on building systems or equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation; work in a physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, or similar environments.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships and communication with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and independently.
  • Use computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook and Word) and the Internet/Intranet.
