Building Substitute
TANTASQUA REGIONAL JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Anticipated Start Date: August 31, 2026
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Assistant Principals
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide daily substitute coverage, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and their records
- provides substitute coverage for teachers, assistants or other educational staff as assigned
- reviews all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day
- maintains established routines and procedures of the school and classroom assigned
- teaches the lessons outlined in the classroom teacher's lesson plans
- writes a report about work completed at the end of each teaching day for absent teacher
- attends team meetings and IEP meetings as requested
- attends parent conferences as requested
- meets with teachers for curriculum discussions as requested
- meets with teachers and other specialists to discuss school issues as requested
- participates in in-service training programs and/or workshops as assigned
- performs other duties as assigned
ABILITY TO:
- communicate effectively with students, teachers, and administration
- effectively apply school procedures and Student Handbook regulations
- work with children of varying abilities, including children with disabilities
- maintain cooperative, productive and flexible working relationship when dealing with students and staff
- solve practical problems with students and staff
- understand and carry out oral and written directions
- plan and organize work to meet deadlines
- provide information and assistance to parents, the general public and other staff members in a helpful, courteous and timely manner
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- child development and challenges faced by students with and without disabilities
- curriculum expectations of grade level/discipline to which he/she is assigned
- available assistive technologies, with appropriate training
- effective use of computer and relevant educational software applications
- interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- safe operation of school equipment necessary to successfully complete daily tasks, including but not limited to copier, laminator, and paper cutter
- telephone/computer techniques and etiquette
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Evidence of ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Appropriate Massachusetts Department of Education certification preferred
- Approved CORI and Fingerprinting results
ANTICIPATED SALARY: The salary range is from $145.00 - $155.00 per day.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Days school is in session Hours: 7:20 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
