BAS (Building Automation Systems) Technologist I, II & III

Location: St. Louis, MO; New Jersey; Philadelphia, PA; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Tempe, AZ; Tucson, AZ; Denver, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; or Seattle, WA (Relocation Available)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Based on Travel Schedule)
Travel: 30%–50% Regional Travel (Expenses Reimbursed)

Compensation:

  • Specialist I (5+ years): $36.54–$42.31/hour ($76,000–$88,000 annually)

  • Specialist II (7+ years): $42.31–$48.08/hour ($88,000–$100,000 annually)

  • Specialist III (10+ years): $48.08–$53.85/hour ($100,000–$112,000 annually)

Additional Compensation: Discretionary annual bonus and monthly phone allowance

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking experienced BAS (Building Automation Systems) Technologists I, II, and III for direct hire opportunities with a leading engineering firm. This role supports building automation, controls programming, controls design, retro-commissioning, HVAC optimization, systems integration, and energy efficiency projects from design through implementation.

The ideal candidate has 5–10+ years of BAS programming and design experience, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and can work independently while collaborating with engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

Building Automation & Controls

  • Design, program, test, and optimize BAS solutions.

  • Troubleshoot controls programming, hardware, software, and systems integration.

  • Support HVAC optimization, controls upgrades, and energy efficiency initiatives.

  • Develop programming modifications and technical documentation.

Project Delivery

  • Perform facility assessments and site surveys.

  • Develop controls design documents and review contractor submittals.

  • Support construction, commissioning, startup, QA/QC, and project closeout.

  • Complete energy calculations, airflow calculations, and performance analysis.

Technical Leadership

  • Support metering solutions and systems optimization.

  • Create technical reports, standards, and training materials.

  • Mentor project teams and provide technical guidance throughout project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of Building Automation Systems programming and design experience.

  • Strong experience with BAS controls, HVAC systems, controls integration, and troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.

  • Willingness to travel 30%–50%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM).

  • Experience with Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, or Tridium Niagara.

  • AutoCAD proficiency.

  • Healthcare or Higher Education project experience.

  • Experience with retro-commissioning and energy optimization.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule based on project travel.

  • Regional travel to client sites and offices (expenses reimbursed weekly).

  • Combination of office, construction, and mechanical room environments.

  • Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 100 pounds.
