    Job Description

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: aa) Possess a current Master Electrician license issued by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board and have five years of field experience under that certification; or (bb) Possess a current State Certified Electrical Contractor license issued by the Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board and have five years of field experience under that certification; or (cc) Possess a current Florida Professional Engineer license having obtained the license pursuant to examination in the electrical discipline and have five years of experience under that license; or (dd) Possess a current Florida Professional Engineer license and have ten years of experience under that license; or (ee) Possess a current Broward County Master Electrician license with five years of field experience under that license and have applied for and received license reciprocity with Miami-Dade County.

    Recruitment Notes

    Incumbents in this role supervise five (5) electrical plan examiners responsible for reviewing plans for commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects submitted for permitting. The plan review process involves evaluating proposed construction for compliance with the electrical and life-safety provisions of the Florida Building Code (FBC), National Electrical Code (NEC), and other applicable codes and regulations within established plan review time frames. Incumbents also perform quality control/assurance to ensure that reviews are conducted equitably and efficiently among staff.

    Additionally, this position is responsible for meeting with department patrons via the Plan Review Supervisor List and through design professional appointments to discuss review dispositions, completion holds, and any required subsidiary electrical permits. Incumbents in this role are expected to have a working knowledge of the plan review process and a complete understanding of the applicable codes that fall within the responsibility of the Division.

    Moreover, it is highly preferred that incumbents have a proven record of effective and efficient leadership and management skills, strong written and oral presentation skills, public administration experience, conflict resolution experience, and customer service skills.
