Job Title Bus Aide

Reports to: Director of Transportation

Job Purpose: Assist and supervise students on the bus during transportation time, treat fellow employees, parents and students with respect and to have a pleasant disposition in his/her working habits while holding the school district in the highest esteem.

Qualifications - Required

Must possess and maintain CPR certification, or obtain within 60 calendar days of employment.

Experience with disabled students preferred.

Be in good physical and mental health. Capable of lifting, positioning and caring for disabled students.

Be a good character and reputation.

Be able to take direction and supervision.

Be responsible, dependable, self-reliant and display initiative.

Be sensitive to the nature and needs of the disabled and their families.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Ability to pass the Criminal History Review

Ability to pass the Sexual Misconduct Child Abuse Disclosure

Other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation

Qualifications Desired

HS Diploma preferred

Experience working in a school district

Duties/Responsibilities

Maintains order and discipline on the school bus during time of transport, loading and unloading.

Be constantly on the alert for individual or group behavior that is in violation of the bus rules.

Enforces the rules and regulations governing the safety and conduct of students on the bus.

Takes immediate action to quell or stop any behavior that is in violation of the bus rules.

Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.

Assists students by positioning, lifting, and placing in wheelchairs when getting on and off the bus.

Takes appropriate action in the event of accident / injury.

Reports any violation of rules and regulations to the driver, using the appropriate forms.

Collects and turns over to the school secretary those personal items left on the bus by students.

Attends staff meeting and participates in staff development and in-service activities. Serves on committees to plan, or assist in specific school projects, as required.

Shall hold as confidential all information regarding students' records, social history and family members.

Maintains standards of ethics and confidentiality, as required by law and Board policy.

Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance that is in accordance with Board policy and procedures.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required, and completes record keeping tasks and paperwork in an efficient and timely manner.

Keeps informed and acts in accordance with all Federal, State, and county laws, code and regulations as pertain to his/her area of responsibility.

Examines his/her effectiveness and continues to seek improvement in knowledge, competencies and techniques as a means of promoting professional improvement.

Complies with the provisions of the law regarding health and security checks.

Performs all duties in a matter consistent with law, code and policy.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may, from time to time be assigned.

Be available for school emergencies i.e. bomb threats, fire, loss of power, etc., so that students can be removed from building to safe locations via school buses.

Performs such other duties as determined by the Director of Transportation, Transportation Coordinator and the Dispatcher.

Salary for 4 Hour Bus Aides $16,836/year, Salary for 5 Hour Bus Aides $21,045/year

Physical Requirements

Able to climb steps to enter a school bus.

Able to sit for long periods of time.

Able to lift at least 50 pounds.
