Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Bus Aide at Wauseon Exempted Village School District. The Bus Aide will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during transportation to and from school. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment for all students while assisting the bus driver in managing student behavior and ensuring a safe journey.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the bus driver in the safe loading and unloading of students at designated stops.
  • Monitor student behavior on the bus to ensure compliance with safety regulations and district policies.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including those requiring assistance with mobility or other accommodations.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation-related concerns.
  • Conduct safety checks of the bus and report any maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Implement emergency procedures as needed to ensure the safety of all passengers.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere on the bus, promoting a culture of kindness and cooperation among students.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required by the school district.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the transportation supervisor or school administration.

Requirements

  • Must hold a State Board of Education Educational Aide Permit or have the ability to obtain one
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly in an educational or transportation setting, is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to school transportation.
  • Must pass a background check and any required drug screenings.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and late afternoons, as required by the school schedule.
