DescriptionPerforms work assisting with the transportation of students to and from schools and other special events. Assists disabled and impaired students getting on and off the bus or in and out of a van including lifting folding unfolding positioning and securing wheelchairs and other restraint devices maintains safe conditions during operation.QualificationsAny combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a high school diploma or GED. Have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with students and drivers concern for the well-being of and desire to assist general education students andor students with disabilities ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers students and parents sufficient strength and agility to move lift and secure students and equipment and assist students with entering and exiting a bus van or another vehicle in regular and emergency situations. Among the essential functions of this job are regular attendance and punctuality in reporting to work. Essential FunctionsTypical TasksProviding help to the school bus driver in maintaining discipline assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus.The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.Ability to interact positively with gain the respect of and maintain discipline over student passengers to ensure that behavior is controlled and not distractive to safe driving.Assist with loading transporting and unloading of general education or Special Education students on assigned buses or vans.Assists with the security of students on vehicles and observes the special needs of individuals.Assists with any special transportation needs such as wheelchairs braces safety harnesses etc.Ability to work with school bus drivers in managing all riders.Understanding of safe proper and courteous motor vehicle operating procedures.Ability to read understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Among the essential functions of this job is regular attendance punctuality in reporting to work and timely submission of attendance and leave requests.Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesGeneral knowledge of the transportation of students some knowledge of transporting students ability to assist students with patience and understanding good physical and mental health ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials associates students and the general public.
