General Description

The Bus/Campus Aide will be responsible for the management of the children while in route from their home to the Head Start Campus site and from the site to their home. Will also be responsible in assisting the classroom teacher in the overall operation and management of designated classroom.

Examples of Work Performed

Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.

Provides first aid to any child, if necessary, while on the bus.

Assures that children get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.

Assures that children are transferred safely and orderly from Parent to bus aide, from bus aide to classroom teacher and again from classroom teacher to bus aide, and from bus aide to parent, in accordance with Texas Department of Family & Protective Services Child Care Minimum Standards, Head Start Federal Performance Standards, and the Texas Education Agency Regulations.

Assures that children are never left unsupervised.

Returns children to the Head Start Campus Site if parent or persons assigned are not at pick-up points.

Assists the teacher in classroom activities that provide the children with a learning environment appropriate to the age and stage of development.

Assists the teacher in planning and implementing the educational program adopted for the Hidalgo County Head Start Program.

Assists the teacher in maintaining a clean and warm learning environment for the children at all times.

Assists the teacher in supervising the children at all times during indoor/outdoor activities.

Assists the teacher in reporting all children's illness, observations, and sudden changes in emotions.

Assists the teacher in planning and implementing daily indoor and outdoor activities in accordance with the adopted curriculums.

Assists the teacher in providing the opportunities for Family Style Service during all meal times if applicable.

Represents Hidalgo County Head Start Program accurately and positively to the community.

Attends all Transportation training and workshops, as well as all educational trainings sponsored by other Head Start Component as assigned by the Field Operations Director or Transportation Coordinator.

.Subject to transfer from campus to campus upon the request of the Executive Director.

Is expected, on occasion, to work hours in addition to the regular work day, and attend evening meetings, weekend training, and out-of-town conferences.

Must attend all trainings deemed necessary by Executive Director to comply with TDFPS Child Care Minimum Standards, Head Start Federal Performance Standards, and the Texas Education Agency.

Must adhere to and maintain the obligations as described in the Confidentiality Policies and the agency.

Must comply with Program Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Executive Director.

Education and Experience

Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Requires thorough knowledge of Special Services in assisting Head Start children with special needs and families.

Must be a self-starter and goal oriented.

Must be able to address the public in a courteous manner.

Must have good communication skills.

Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Must have an automobile and current liability insurance for work related travel.
