Job Description

The School Bus Driver safely transports students to and from school during designated routes. This role acts as a vital community link and the first daily point of contact for students. Drivers manage student behavior, operate vehicles under varying conditions, and perform routine maintenance. Positions are typically part-time split shifts aligned with the public school calendar. Core ResponsibilitiesVehicle Operation: Drive assigned bus daily according to established schedules.Route Compliance: Stop only at designated locations to load and unload students safely.Safety Inspection: Perform mandatory pre-trip and post-trip vehicle mechanical inspections daily.Student Safety Check: Inspect the vehicle interior after every run to ensure no students remain on board.Behavior Management: Maintain order and enforce passenger safety rules firmly and politely.Incident Reporting: Submit written documentation regarding student misconduct to school administrators promptly.Basic Maintenance: Keep the bus clean and check levels for fuel, oil, and tires.Emergency Response: Direct emergency evacuations and administer basic first aid if necessary.Extracurricular Transport: Drive students and teachers to field trips or athletic events when required. Qualifications & RequirementsAge Limit: Must be at least 21 to 25 years old depending on county board guidelines.Licensing: Hold a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B.Endorsements: Possess both a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement.Background Check: Pass a comprehensive criminal background check and fingerprinting.Health Screen: Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, including vision and hearing checks.Drug Testing: Submit to a pre-employment drug screening and subsequent random testing.Driving Record: Maintain a clean driving history with no recent major traffic violations. Working ConditionsSplit Shift: Work a morning shift and an afternoon shift with a break in between.Weather Exposure: Drive and inspect vehicles during extreme heat, cold, rain, or winter conditions.Physical Demands: Sit for extended periods and routinely lift, pull, or assist students with special needs.
