Description

To provide transportation services to residents of Community in a timely and orderly fashion. This position is considered a universal employee worker and will be crossed trained in other positions as directed by the Community Management Team. Non-driving duties may include, but will not be limited to: Assisting/serving residents in the dining room; bussing tables, removing trash; cleaning windows, assisting housekeeping employees with deep cleaning of resident apartments and common areas, as directed by the Community Management Team; performing maintenance tasks for residents (such as moving furniture or hanging pictures) as directed by the Community Management Team.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS

  • Has a current, valid driver’s license for the state in which you are employed.
  • If duties include driving a commercial motor vehicle, prior to driving, candidate must submit a completed commercial driver packet supplied by Hawthorn Senior Living and receive written authorization with approval from Hawthorn Senior Living.
  • Ability to operate the Community bus or other vehicles in a safe manner at all times.
  • Ability to meet the needs of the residents, transporting them to destinations on time and in orderly fashion.
  • Ability to care for the community bus or other vehicles, ensuring the annual safety inspection is completed along with all other routine maintenance as needed
  • Must be 21 years of age to drive a commercial vehicle or at least 18 years of age to drive a non-commercial vehicle.

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with residents and staff.

  • Demonstrates ability to work efficiently and pleasantly in an extremely busy work environment, to deal with difficult situations in a calm manner and be a team player.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet department deadlines.
  • Meets state or provincial health related requirements (as applicable for position).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular, on-site, attendance and punctuality is required as scheduled.
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge of the Hawthorn Senior Living Employee Handbook. 
  • Adheres to all Company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Meet all federal, state, and provincial driving regulations.
  • Read and abide by the Vehicle Safety Policy.
  • Operate the Community bus or other vehicles in a safe manner at all times.
  • Drive the Community bus or other vehicles to and from required destinations.
  • Must know how to operate the mechanical lift on the bus both hydraulically and manually if applicable.
  • Interact with residents regarding their transportation needs in a caring and considerate manner.
  • Schedule destinations of Community bus or other vehicles as directed by the Community Management Team.
  • Be accessible to the Community Management Team during working hours. This may include using electronic equipment (Community cell phone, Community pager) or using other means to stay in touch if there are changes in the schedule or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Keep the Community bus or other vehicles clean.
  • Care for the community bus or other vehicles. Ensuring the annual safety inspection is completed along with all other routine maintenance as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Community Management Team. Non-driving duties may include, but will not be limited to: Assisting/serving residents in the dining room; bussing tables, removing trash; cleaning windows, assisting housekeeping employees with deep cleaning of resident apartments and common areas; performing maintenance tasks for residents (such as moving furniture or hanging pictures).
  • May be assigned to any other job function in the Community on a relief basis.

OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all work assigned for the agreed-upon salary, accepting no additional payment or non-perishable gifts from residents, vendors, or others.
  • Use timekeeping system to report hours worked on a daily basis, as well as the start and stop times of your meal periods.
  • Meets the assigned work requirements of the job.
  • Adheres to dress/appearance code. Changes in attire may be dictated by special occasion or weather conditions. If you have questions, check with your Manager.
  • Promotes resident advocacy and demonstrate excellent customer service at all times.
  • Serves as a role model for all employees by displaying a responsible, cooperative, and positive attitude.
  • Represents the Company and the community in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner when in the public.
  • Understands safe and proper chemical use and adheres to safety protocols. This includes using personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • Attend education and training classes as necessary to fulfill company training requirements and/or state regulations applicable to the position.
  • Maintain personnel, resident, and business proprietary and/or confidential matters/material in strict confidence with management of the company (and/or other company staff as needed).
