HRCAP Head Start/Early Head Start Job Description
Bus Driver
POSITION PURPOSE:Serveas amemberof theTransportationTeam to providesafe,qualitytransportationservices to childrenandfamilies in the HeadStart/EarlyHeadStart Program.
SUPERVISOR: Transportation Coordinator
DUTIESINCLUDE:
- Adheres to all local,state, andfederalpolicies regarding transportation.
- Supervises Bus Monitor.
- Maintainsconfidentialityconcerningchildrenandfamilies.
- Transportschildren toand from the HeadStartcentersin a safe,efficient,andtimelymanner to include children with disabilities.
- Transportschildren toand from field trips, healthclinics, public schools,and other program related activities.
- Transportparents and staffto meetings, conferences, andworkshops, as directed bySupervisor or LeadershipTeam.
- Maintain a healthy, safe,andorderlyenvironmenton the bus.
- Maintaincommunication throughoutworkdayandafterrunswith Transportation Coordinator in case ofemergencies or other pick-ups/drop offs.
- Assure
childrenare seatedproperly in their seat belts andharness while beingtransported.
- Conducts a childcountto confirmthat the correctnumberof childrenareon the bus anda finalcount to preventchildrenfrombeingleft behind.
- Performsdaily pre-trip and post trip inspectionthat is by
stateand federallaweach day.
- Consult with TransportationCoordinatorandProgramOperationsTeamLeaders tosecurenecessaryrepairs.
- Alwaysmaintainan updated pick-up/drop-offschedule.
- Must submit weeklyand monthly reports on time to Transportation Coordinator andProgramOperationsTeamLeader.
- Attends bi-weeklymeetings, andin-service training whenscheduled.
- Submit Referrals/SpecialArrangementsto TransportationCoordinatorandmust beapproved prior to anychangesbeingimplemented.
- All staffmust sign in at theirappropriateHeadStartcenter
dailyandcommunicatewith TransportationCoordinator.
- All drivers must report toassignedclassroomdirectlyafter performing morning post-tripprocedures,exceptwhendirected to perform other transportationduties, i.e., Takingbuses to theshop forrepair,takingchildren homeor on fieldtrips etc.
- Perform otherdutiesasassigned by the HeadStart/EarlyHeadStart Director.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have the knowledge, skills andexperience needed to perform assignedfunctions responsibly.
- Must have high school diplomaor GED.
- Must possess a validVirginia CommercialDriver’sLicense with PSEndorsement.
- Must have a physical,TBtest, andcriminalbackgroundcheckat thetimeofemployment.
- Knowledgeof geographic area.
- Must have agood driving record.
