Position Overview
The Transportation Manager oversees the daily operations of the district transportation department to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of students. The Transportation Manager supervises transportation personnel, coordinates bus routing and scheduling, monitors vehicle maintenance operations, and ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the overall operation of the Transportation Department.
- Develop and implement safe and efficient transportation services for students and school activities.
- Oversee bus routing, scheduling, and route evaluations to maximize efficiency and safety.
- Coordinate transportation vehicle maintenance, fueling, inspections, and repair operations.
- Supervise and support transportation personnel, including bus drivers and bus attendants.
- Investigate transportation incidents, accidents, and operational concerns and prepare required reports.
- Coordinate and monitor required training programs for transportation personnel.
- Ensure compliance with transportation policies, safety regulations, and district procedures.
- Monitor and coordinate quarterly random drug testing for DOT and non-DOT personnel.
- Maintain transportation records and prepare required district and state reports.
- Collaborate with school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to resolve transportation concerns.
- Assist in the development and implementation of transportation policies and procedures.
- Participate in professional development activities related to student transportation and operational management.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Transportation Management, Educational Leadership, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in public education preferred.
- Knowledge of school bus routes, student transportation procedures, and transportation guidelines.
- Knowledge of transportation safety regulations and operational procedures.
- Technology skills and proficiency with transportation software, routing systems, and standard computer applications preferred.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, leadership, and personnel management skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
Reporting Structure
The Transportation Manager reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for overseeing transportation services, personnel, safety compliance, and operational efficiency throughout the district.
