This position supports daily transportation operations by ensuring all vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of school bus engines, transmissions, brakes, and related mechanical systemsPerform preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with NJDOT and district schedulesAssist with disassembly and reassembly of engines and major componentsInspect, service, and repair tires, including mounting and balancing as neededPerform routine servicing including oil changes, lubrication, and fluid checksMaintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work ordersAssist with fueling, lubricating, and maintaining shop equipment and suppliesSupport troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issuesMaintain a clean, safe, and organized work environmentPerform other duties as assigned by the Head Mechanic QualificationsWorking knowledge of mechanical tools, equipment, and safety practicesBasic understanding of diesel engines and automotive systems preferredAbility to use and learn diagnostic and repair equipmentAbility to follow oral and written instructionsStrong attention to detail and recordkeeping skillsAbility to communicate effectivelyCriminal History approval from the state of New Jersey License RequirementsValid New Jersey Driver's License requiredCommercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe CompensationHourly Rate: $29.00 per hourPosition is 12-month, full-time, with eligibility for overtime, benefits, and pension in accordance with district policy and contractual agreements Availability: ASAPDeadline for Applying: October 30, 2026
