Position/Application Information

McNeese State University invites applicants for the position of Business Affairs Financial Analyst. This is a full-time, 12-month, unclassified staff position. The appointment is available to begin July 27, 2026.

Position Summary:

The Business Affairs Financial Analyst provides professional-level analytical and administrative support to the Vice President for Business Affairs while participating in a structured developmental experience designed to build broad knowledge of the Universitys business operations. This position is intended to support succession planning within the Division of Business Affairs by developing future financial leadership and preserving institutional knowledge. The successful candidate will initially focus on budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and institutional financial analysis while gaining experience across other areas of the Division.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • Financial Analysis and Budget Development: Assist with the preparation, monitoring, and analysis of the Universitys operating, auxiliary, and athletic capital budgets. Participate in financial forecasting, budget development, and long-range financial planning. Analyze financial data and prepare reports for executive leadership.
  • Accounting Support: Work closely with the Accounting and Budget Offices to develop an in-depth understanding of the Universitys accounting processes, fund accounting, financial reporting, and fiscal operations. Participate in cross-training opportunities designed to preserve institutional knowledge and support future succession planning.
  • Special Projects: Independently manage special projects assigned by the Vice President for Business Affairs. Conduct research, prepare analyses, and develop recommendations related to financial, operational, and strategic initiatives.
  • Executive Support: Prepare executive correspondence, presentations, reports, and other materials for the Division of Business Affairs independently and as directed by the Vice President.
  • Liaison Duties: Coordinate Business Affairs matters with the University of Louisiana System, the Board of Regents, state agencies, auditors, and other external entities.
  • Contract Management: Maintain the Universitys contract repository and monitor contract expiration and renewal dates.
  • Records Retention: Manage the Universitys compliance with the Louisiana Secretary of State records retention schedules.
  • Custodian of Public Records: Serve as the Universitys Custodian of Public Records, ensuring timely, accurate, and legally compliant responses to public records requests.
  • Procurement: Prepare requisitions and purchase orders for the Division of Business Affairs.
  • Scheduling and Project Coordination: Organize and monitor appointments, deadlines, and projects for the Division.
  • Communication: Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills while interacting professionally with faculty, staff, students, visitors, and external stakeholders. This includes initiating and responding to telephone calls and other communications for the Division.
  • Visitor Reception and Collaboration: Engage with visitors and colleagues in a professional, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Technical Proficiency: Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the Ellucian Banner system, as well as other business applications required to support the Divisions operations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional analytical ability, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to develop expertise in higher education finance and administration. Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Accounting from an accredited institution.
  • One year of accounting, auditing, governmental, or higher education experience (internships acceptable).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree preferred (MBA, Master's in Accounting).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or eligibility to sit for the CPA examination, with a demonstrated commitment to obtaining licensure.
  • Experience with the Ellucian Banner system.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, or data analysis tools.
